We will remember them
As I came home from work I stopped by the churchyard to pray for those lost.
Whilst there I met Kath and a man who didn't give his name.
The churchyard was quiet tonight, and that is why we were there. Three of us.
Two with memories, and me trying to work out how they got through.
Let me take you back to 22 August 1944.
Kath was 2. It was the night before her 3rd birthday.
I am sure she went to bed a very excited little girl, not knowing what surprises and delights she would wake up to.
For many years later she thought she was unwanted because her parents were always sad on August 23rd. It was many years before she knew the real reason.
The man probably went to bed thinking about his working day ahead. He did not know his life would never be the same again.
Tomorrow there will be a big congregation for a service of remembrance. The churchyard will be busy. Quiet no doubt, but busy.
But to tonight the churchyard is quiet as a village prepares to remember.
God bless.
