A village falls silent
At 10.47 am on 23rd August 1944 a liberator bomber of the US Air Force crashed on the sad sack snack bar, then Freckleton Church of England School.
A service of remembrance has been held today in Freckleton.
At exactly 10.47 this morning the last note of The Last Post ended and the village fell silent.
Listening to those who were there has been very moving.
I was especially moved by a man in his 70s who said to me
"I walked to school with my cousin that morning. I came home alone".
This afternoon we held a silence at the game between AFC Fylde and Guiseley. I have never seen the ground as silent as it was for this remembrance.
