Crepuscular Pond
That's the little artificial lake/pond in our local park. I had been in all day, out of sorts, though nothing too serious. I was feeling better after tea and about to drive off somewhere to catch the last light when the wean and his cousin, Ron, asked to go for a walk with Lola in the park. The wean hates taking his beloved dog for walks because walks are a chore. Having Ron with us made all the difference and they bounded about the place, infected by Lola's hyperactive JR-spirit.
I've photographed the park before in twilight, though this is the first time I tried to catch something of the pond's richness. By day, it's not that attractive: a fenced-in concrete mini-reservoir, it's artificiality plainly visible. In the evening it seems to broaden somehow and its reflected shadows deepen to enigmatic Rorschach blots. The little park, punctuated with orange lights, exhales and tries for mystery, and succeeds occasionally. Especially if you're seven and ten and have an excitable dog running circles around you. Why go home at all?
