Grand Autumn Show

This shows India's Arrangement of Wild Flowers class, hers is the one in the basket.

Alarm at 6.30am to get the walnut scones and lemon curd filled lemon and poppyseed muffins in the oven and to the Island Show before 9am. Last year I lovingly packed the cakes so well in a box and surrounded by towels in my bike basket. When I arrived they were all upside down so this year Mark and I walked them to the show. Mum had left before 8am with her cayenne, olive, Parmesan and onion mini scones. People were arriving with huge blooms of flowers in the back of tractors and carting cakes in wheelbarrows. We were home again for 9.30am.

As we set off Derrible Bay it started spitting with rain again but I said, I'm sure it'll pass let's keep going. As we reached the bottom of the 500 steps it poured. We remembered why we'd nicknamed it Terrible Derrible, the large flat rock at the bottom of the stairs was slick with rain and all the other boulders were carpeted in slippy seaweed. The beach looked beautiful but we couldn't get there without breaking a leg each. We had a rainy lunch and headed back up.

At the Island Show Mum got 2nd prize for her miniature flower arrangement and her scones, Heidi got second place for her colouring competition and 12 blackberries on a plate, India's wild flowers got a commendation and I won the muffins class!! We had a good look around the prize onions, longest runner beans, giant marrows, beautiful eggs, cakes, bread, flowers and even some bacon jam.

Helen made a lemony chicken dinner and we played cards in the evening.
