Alfie...
Not my picture at all but one that I found on my TWITTER feed. He's a little rescue dog who is now with a forever family. He used to live at the Manchester Dog's Home in Harpurhey. Many people will know now that this institution had a dreadful fire yesterday evening. It appears to be arson. In the fire 49 dogs have died but 150 were rescued. The scenes around the dog's home last night and the noises the terrified dogs made were dreadful, in the true sense of the word.
Knowing people wanted to help the Manchester Evening News created a page where people could give. A modest target of £5000 was set. Less than a day after the the devastating fire the total stands (checks page) at a staggering £864,242! And rising...
When you hear of something like this happening and read that it was a deliberate act of arson by one person you begin to wonder what the world has become. But then you see that 87,739 people have been kind enough to donate £867,368 (the total rose while I wrote this) it kind of restores your faith in humanity.
If you would like to donate, get your phone and follow Alfie's instructions...
