Breaking the rules
On impulse on Sunday I decided to get out of Edinburgh for the weekend. Michael lives in Macduff, which is about 40 miles outside of Aberdeen and convinced me that going to visit was a great idea.
So cue an early morning bus this morning and a fun filled day! It's been amazing; totally feels like I'm on holiday.
We visited 2 derelict castles; Slains Castle (above) and Pitsligo Castle (below). You know how much I love ruined castles (especially those with turrets). According to the signage, they are both dangerous...but we weren't about to let that stop us.
In Slains Castle we climbed up in one of the turrets to what would have been the 4th floor. There were no barriers and all it would have taken was a gust of wind to sweep us into the rocky sea below. Marvellous. In Pitsligo Castle, we climbed up onto a first floor ledge to get a look inside.
We also managed to visit Newburgh Beach where we saw some seals, Pennan, a seaside town with a famous phonebox, and ate Bicocchi ice cream in Fraserburgh.
We're now sat relaxing at home, Michael is making tea and we're heading out to see if we can see the Northern Lights later. I don't imagine we'll be able to due to cloud cover, but we'll give it a go!
