Shipwrecked
On a stormy night in 2005, a fishing boat named The Sovereign ran aground and was stranded in the Cairnbulg rocks.
Since then, residents tried to get its wreck removed, claiming it spoiled the view and posed a risk to swimmers in the summer.
It wasn't removed. In 2012, surprised scottish residents found that a heavily edited image of the wreck had been used in a film poster for The Life Of Pi (a fabulous book by Yann Martel). It was thought this would be a big tourist pull to the small town near Fraserburgh.
I'm not entirely sure how that worked out. As you can see, Michael and I went today and clamboured out over the rocks to get as close as possible to the wreckage. But we simply drove through the town, saw the wreck and left again without spending any money in the town.
A particularly impressive sight though I must say!
