An old farm wall with lots of textures....
Today's blip is of our old farm wall around the barn. It is a marvelous backdrop to the herbaceous border and becoming more visible again, as we are cutting down lots of perennials. It is made from Bargate Stone which is fairly rare nowadays as the quarries have been exhausted. The sandstone was quarried from medieval times in the Greensand Ridge in south west Surrey.
I particularly like the lovely honey/yellow colouring of the stone, this is due to the high oxide content. I also like the many mosses and lichens on the wall but know very little about them apart from the fact there are numerous types!
