The Harbour - Bangor County Down.

It always amazes me looking at harbours round the world, and trying to figure out the money invested in yachts and suchlike which just sit for most of the year unused and unattended.
This is the harbour in Bangor, County Down a coastal resort near Belfast, full of boats - millions of pounds-worth of investment.
Sad thing is that until the early 1990's this was a lovely sandy beach. The town council decided to get rid of the beach and replace it with car parks, gardens and this yacht basin.. Quite an extraordinary decision, which downgraded the town as a great place for family holidays and days out for city kids on the beach, and a decision that contributed greatly to the economic decline of what was, traditionally and for generations, a busy promenade and social focus.
I understand, having chatted to a local, that the Council now plans to reverse the development and reintroduce a beach!
Pretty remarkable.
Goodness knows how they are going to achieve that! I shall not hold my breath in anticipation.
