Morning has broken

It was very foggy this morning when we woke up but with a blink of the eye it cleared. It was really strange to see, one minute thick the next nothing. The haar did creep back across the Firth as seen here. The lighting was much better than in the photo but I did nt capture it very well.

Today is Michaelmas , the day when the harvest is meant to be completed. I think it has finished here apart from getting the bales in. There's a Vintage Fergie Tractor ploughing match at Allangrange on Saturday to raise money for the Highland Hospice. A great way to get your fields ploughed in one go.

Did you have a goose for dinner ? No, me neither, but if we had we could have been 'protected from financial need' for the following year. The goose would have been fattened on the stuble from the harvested fields.
'Eat a goose on Michaelmas day,
Want not for money all the year'
Or did you have a St Michaels Bannoch, a large scone-like cake. This would be made from the cereals the family had produced during the year, cooked on a lamb skin. The fruit would also be soaked in sheeps milk, the sheep being 'deemed the most sacred animal.'
