Edinburgh elegance
This lovely window frames the first floor stairs of Inch House, once a private mansion, now a community centre in the Gilmerton area of Edinburgh and home to the annual organic potato day - where I was first thing this morning with hordes of other keen tattie growers. My friend Kate was keen to be introduced to this event so I advised her to get there early. Its a bit like a jumble sale for tatties, lots of jostling to get in to see what varieties are for sale. The beauty of the day is that you can buy small numbers of seed potatoes including some heritage potatoes and of course you are with lots of enthusiasts from whom you can pick up useful tips! I like the incongruity of this elegant house giving room to a bunch of folk in their gardening gear and bags of tatties everywhere.
After the scrum of tattie day, it was off to the allotment to prepare the seed bed/cold frame in anticipation of warmer temperatures. While I was there my eldest niece who studies in Glasgow rang to say she was at the top of Arthur's Seat with her friend who studies over here....so Ive just fed two hungry, appreciative students and am about to tackle the ironing pile. Very Sunday evening.
