Not Porty People or Places

The Poles love to placard! Sometimes political. Sometimes promotional.

We met this trio today in the park in Central Warsaw near where we used to live. They were promoting healthy dog food and had samples to give away from a large cool box.

There is a saying in Polish that the smaller the apartment ... the bigger the dog. We had a neighbour who lived in a tiny flat with a Great Dane hound.

Did you know that the Poles are the second largest dog owning nation in Europe after the Brits?

We took a walk by our old apartment and met an elderly neighbour who asked us where we had been. When we said Scotland his immediate response was : ah, our latest brave fighters! The pro independence message has a surprisingly far flung reach.

Last night we were dined out in grand style. We were joined at breakfast by Polish friends and this evening we meet former colleagues in the old town.

It is wonderful to spend time in the romantic Polish capital in this glorious early autumn weather. The Paris of the east is how Warsaw was styled in the inter war years. That style and panache is definitely back again now.
