Fyrish Folly

With the last of the overnight rain clearing . we set off for the 2 mile walk to Cnoc Fyrish. It is an impressive structure, built by the estate workers of Sir Hector Munro in 1782. After a 'distinguished' career in the Indian Army, where he gave the order to tie striking Sepoys to cannon and shot them off, he returned home to Novar a wealthy man. He then paid the impoverished workers on his estate to build three follies on his estate. We visited the other two, virtually unknown sites, adding a further four miles to our expedition. The weather was brilliant, warm and sunny and windless.
