Leeds Castle reflections

Following yesterday's poor weather today dawned bright, sunny but with a frost! Despite the nippyness of the morning we thought it was an ideal day to go to Leeds Castle and walk the gounds and surrounding countryside.

Leeds Castle is only about 4 miles away so we decided to cycle there, rather than take the car. It was not the most pleasant of journeys along the A20 with some fast moving traffic and a few motorists who saw it as their duty to get past you before one of those traffic islands that divide the carriageways sometimes. They get very close as they cut in, but can't be bothered to wait a few seconds.

It's a pity that the journey was so unpleasant as, with a bit of thought and a few white lines, a cycle route could be created alongside the main road which might encourage more people to abandon their cars. We couldn't cycle along the footpath either as that was in a poor state of repair and disappeared for stretches too.

But we got there and back safely and enjoyed a 5 mile walk around the grounds and fields. The air was perfectly still and the sky clear which lent itself to this reflective shot. Only a coot or two threatened to spoil the mirror like surface. We also enjoyed a morning coffee, third consecutive day too. Leeds is more of an ornamental castle, not built for defensive purposed but more as a show of power and affluence by the local bigiwgs.

Then it was back home to get the pork shoulder in the oven for 5 hours for dinner. Cracked the crackling now, came out lovely and crisp and salty.
