Autumn Foliage

We were fortunate enough to have yet another clear day in the Lake District with the rain not setting in until. 4.00pm. There was a lovely mist over Bassenthwaite first thing and although I was lazy enough not to get up and go out before breakfast, I did manage to catch one or two shots from just up the road before the mist disappeared.

We spent most of the day around the eastern edges of Derwentwater and it was gloriously sunny for most of the morning with just a very light breeze so reflections in the lake and beautiful skies were very much the order of the day. Before we moved off to Surprise View for lunch I scrambled up the steep bank on the road to capture this autumnal woodland glade - hand held telephoto shot with a ridiculously high ISO 0f 6400. From the high viewpoint of Surprise View the wake of the Derwentwater ferries was particularly attractive. After lunch we then walked down the road to capture the obligatory shots of Ashness Bridge.

By the time we reached Watendlath the rain was beginning to fall and as the tea room was already closed we decided to decamp the Nichol End on the far side of the Lake to sustain ourselves with coffee and ridiculously large scones. As it had stopped raining, we ended the day shooting around the marina at Nichol End, so all in all it has been a fairly successful day's photography. So much for my foreboding that the early part of the week was going to be a washout filled with Photoshop sessions.
