Reaching Heavenwards

What a gorgeous day, despite a forecast of rain.

We went into Salisbury with very little on the agenda other than 'have lunch', so enjoyed the opportunity to mooch around in the sunshine. We parked in Harnham so had a lovely walk in across the water meadows, then spent about 45 minutes on Cathedral Green, walking round then sitting chatting on a bench while Ted played on the grass.

Although I find Salisbury Cathedral just a little dour internally, not as interesting as many other cathedrals, I find its exterior just glorious, rising in Gothic splendour into the sky. The detailing in the stone work is incredible, a testimony to the skill if centuries' of craftsmen. It never fails to make me stop and stare.

After lunch we ended up spending more time around the cathedral as Ted suddenly refused to go in his pushchair, insisting instead that he walk. It would have been ok had he actually kept walking, but he stopped literally every 5 metres, and squatted down to 'dig' with the toy JCB which hadn't left his hand all morning! He got lots of amused glances from the many passers-by; Rob and I just shrugged our shoulders and didn't try to hurry him. We were in no rush, and there are worse places to be held up than Salusbury Cathedral Green on an unexpectedly Summery day!
