Decision Day

With our terrible ordeal of yesterday...today was decision day.

To travel ahead 30-35 miles (with even higher elevations), or to swallow our pride, and return to civilization by the same 11 miles we had come up on. It was a hard swallow.

We decided to spend the entire day in the shelter, and travel down on Thursday morning. Early.

During the day, we talked to the hikers that were passing through. We even got to talk to Dave Smith, a "through-hiker." That means he was doing the entire length of the Appalachian Trail. 2,170 miles. FOR THE SECOND TIME!

As night drew near, we were joined in the shelter by a young single gal from Austin, Texas, and a father and son team from Knoxville. The five of us were all in bed by 7:30 p.m. Without the storm, it was a much quieter night.

A picture of the "through-hiker" and a couple of others are on my FLICKR PAGE. Hike on over and have a look.
