Lord of the Sheep
Spotted this sky over Skye in the rear view mirror as we drove north again this morning. Parked up and headed down to the cliff edge to catch the rays spraying over the island of Raasay and the Cuillin mountains beyond. It was then I noticed the traffic pulling up on the main road and a huge flock of sheep heading up the hill with this shepherd and his three dogs in tow. Stopped the traffic (no-one seemed in the slightest put out by this, and folk popped out of nowhere with cameras to record the whole thing). Despite getting in some cracking shots of this, it was the perfect angle of the sun rays and the lorldy look on the shepherd's face that nudged this to the top of the pile for me.
The sun took a bit longer to appear today as we zig-zagged our way up and around the coast, hunting down dinosaur footprints and ruined castles, wandering cemetries of long dead Scottish folk heroes (Flora McDonlad) buried next icons of British fashion (Alexander McQueen), and having two soups in what almost turned into an exact copy of Victoria Wood/Julie Walters Two Soups sketch. Poor wee wummim was run off her feet with a packed cafe of tourists from all over the globe.
The great skies followed us all the way around the island until we arrived back in Portree after another cracking day. Magic.
Aurora was out to play tonight - caught it over Portree at the back of eleven between the clouds.
