Merricks First Light

It was not a good day for camping. 41F degrees, and windy. We decided to take Merrick into town (East Tawas, Michigan.) The lighthouse there was having a Halloween day, with all sorts of activities for kids.

But, first there was a tower to climb. Merrick's first light. Round and round we went, 85 steps to the top...watching your head at the last opening.

We practiced what we were going to say to his mother. "I bagged my first lighthouse. I bagged my first lighthouse." I bet he said it 50 times.

The moment came. "Hey Merrick, what do you have to say to Mom?"

"I don't know."

All the practice...down the drain.
