A Work in Progress
This is an all original composition by me. I direct an all youth contemporary Christian community choir that is based out of my church. I teach other teens the importance of Christ and music at the same time, without bringing out all of the old music from the old days. We perform new contemporary Christian selections. My church asked me if my choir would be willing to perform at the first annual “Lighting of the Greens” service in December. This service will portray the story of Christmas and will get the church decorated for the holiday season. My choir is asked to perform a selection during the part of the service where the pastor talks about the North Star over Jerusalem. I have searched far and wide for contemporary Christian music about this topic but have come up with nothing. This led me to a decision that will put all of my musical skills to the test. I am composing an all original, contemporary Christian musical selection about the North Star and those who followed it to see baby Jesus. This picture shows what I have composed so far. It is a condensed score that only shows 6 measures. When counted out, the musical value actually adds up to 18 measures. This song is a ripple and will contain three themes. The opening theme is complete and is in F major cannon style. The second theme, as you can see, is not yet complete. It will be in D minor with suspended and augmented harmonies. The third movement will be lively and longer. It will be full of power chords and joyous bell tones. My composition is entitled “Bright Star” and is set up in SAB (Soprano, Alto, and Bass) with grand staff piano format. What you see here took 2 ½ hours to compose and write down. I am thrilled with the piece so far and cannot wait to hear the ending product!
