PADDLING INTO THE SUNSET....

... another visit to the mighty Nepean River tonight and although the sunset was a little "uninteresting" with lack of cloud, the colour was good and found this guy paddling out in his kayak adding a bit of interest!

It has become a world class affair, with runners from all around the world and this year an entry from Germany won, and won well. With prize money of over A$6 million, it is a race meeting here that for many years has literally "stopped the nation" at 3 pm on the first Tuesday of every November. It is one race meeting that nearly every person (adult, and I suppose some kids via their parents) has a "tinker" on their choice. The prize pool is enormous, although this year apparently the amount bet was down 3.7% compared last year. Check here if interested..... and like me maybe wonder how this amount of money could be put to medical research to far better result than pure enjoyment and fun in one afternoon!?

Sadly a Japanese entry who started favourite had a heart attack after the race and died, and another runner who was spooked by the crowd after the race and did an injury to one of its legs had to be put down, so not a good result!
