Some historical sights

This morning it was still a bit wet so we headed into the Old Town to have a look at some of the historical buildings. We went to a couple of amazing old assembly rooms (one from the 1700s) and temples. This photo is one of the guards at the entrance to a temple which we particularly liked. Some absolutely amazing architecture and decoration.

We also visited a beautiful historic house which was about 200 years old. The old man in the house said it was built by his Japanese ancestors and he was sixth generation (there are currently generations six, seven and eight living in the house). It was a beautiful wooden house with a courtyard and overlooking balconies.

He was a lovely old gentleman who was sitting there studying English. Once he found out we were English he was asking us about how to say take off and put on your shoes ... he couldn't understand that you couldn't say take off and take on your shoes. He managed to concept of wearing things - shoes, hat etc we think ... we left him pouring over his books.

We spent the afternoon deciding whether to remain in Hoi An for the full moon festival on 6th November or move on ... we're staying. Its nice here and the festival is supposed to be good, besides the weather looks better here then further up the coast and we want to beach and chill time before the next leg of our journey begins.
