Getting the Gifts
Aren't these little ones cute!
The Special Report magazine about the Operation Christmas Child arrived in our mailbox today. It had my attention immediately. Back on November 14, I blipped the boxes that Mr. Fun & I were preparing to send so 4 children somewhere in this world would get a gift.
Looking through the pages of this special report wasn't exciting . . . it was heart-warming. It just reaffirmed our desire to do more this year. Viewing the darling little faces of children clutching the gift box they had received just stops us still to stare and wonder at the quality of their lives and how we could do more to bring joy to their young lives. A couple of the photos include the view of a mom with delight in her eyes watching her little ones hug those boxes and toys and trinkets--can you imagine her joy to see those little ones getting gifts.
The little things in life . . . the little gestures . . . all added together make some big differences. Samaritan's Purse collected 8.2 million shoe box gifts in 13 countries in 2009, and for the first time the countries of Spain and Hong Kong contributed too. In 2009 there were 200,000 more boxes donated than 2008. Wow! The boxes were sent to 108 countries. The two of us think that is more than wonderful.
Many blippers commented last November when I displayed those boxes. Lots of you were sending gift boxes too. The number of boxes donated by folks in the UK, US, Canada, Germany (including Austria & Switzerland), Australia (inlcuding New Zealand), and Ireland is amazing. Lots of people with big hearts. So I just wanted everyone to see the other side of the story. It gives me goosebumps.
Tomorrow is the first Saturday in March. Hope you have a good one.
Good night from Southern California.
