Ground control to Uncle Andy
There was much debate at my friends house or rather, garden last night about a barrel firework that instructions stated spectators needed to be 25 meters from it. Yes! 25 meters! It was decided that as the garden backs onto unused land the firework should be ignited there and watched from afar (behind the fence) as it was assumed that this must send multiple rockets up into the night sky. Well we watched the first few, Roman candles and the like. Then a few single rockets then the barrel was to be ignited. Simon set off through the back gate with his taper and we waited....suddenly there were pretty coloured lights somewhere behind the fence in the distance but alas nothing in the air. It seems the instructions were somewhat over cautious and the barrel didn't have a solitary rocket. Unfortunately I was too busy sniggering in the conservatory to snap the lights behind the fence at that point. Simon returned to tell us it was quite pretty but not quite as spectacular as he'd hoped. Never mind, perhaps the 'home made rocket' that Uncle Andy made would fair better... (yes folks you heard right) now this concoction was two rockets that had been fashioned into various kitchen roll tubes/toilet roll tubes & cardboard into the shape of a space rocket. There were high hopes from Uncle Andy. The rest of the party retreated into the conservatory.
The taper was lit.
Simon ran for cover.
We waited in anticipation.
The rocket (1) took off vertically ish.
Rocket (2) ignited and it took a 90 degree turn then headed down into next doors garden where coloured sparks & lights could be seen behind the fence..again!
Not such a success. The garden was pronounced ok after a search party peered over the fence and Uncle Andy went back to creating paella in the kitchen (far safer).
Thanks to Sam for inviting us to another highly entertaining evening.
