Wrinkles

Baby birds are such ugly wrinkly things.

A blackbird built a nest in a basket in a friend's garage. We have been interested in progress but nothing seemed to be happening - to the extent that yesterday I even googled blackbird incubation to find out when we could expect action. Wikipedia said that it takes 14-15 day and we were convinced that she'd been sitting on them for longer than that.

Then this morning I received a text to say they had just hatched, and that what we had thought was 2 eggs was actually 3.

Of course I had to grab my camera and head down there immediately. I arrived to find Mum out hunting for food and the babies squirming and begging for sustenance. No sound coming out as yet but I'm sure they'll be really noisy in a day or two.
