Pschychedelic celery

You never know what you will find to blip!

This week we are studying transport in plants and I dissolved some of the colour from highlighter pens in water. The girls added some leafy celery stalks and were able to follow the path of the diluted highlighter ink up the xylem (the vessels that transport water from roots to leaves) using uv light! Spooky or what!

It actually worked, too. My too-cool-for-school GCSE Biologists oooh-ed and aaah-ed in an appropriately appreciative manner.

I love it when a plan comes together.
