Quilts and Crops
A look inside and
a look outside, only they
are worlds far apart

I met with my Roadrunners today. This group started as an official quilters guild but downscaled to a quilting group when they got tired of being ignored by the parent group. It hasn't changed the determination of the group. It still generates many beautiful quilts for the annual quilt show in town. It still creates many useful charity quilts for the community. It is still a group of very interesting and capable women.
A drive down highway 95 on the northeast side of the city brought us to our favourite place to buy a thick and delicious date shake. In the field beside it Mexican workers brought in for the day tend the crop. These workers are collected on the Mexican side of the border each morning in the wee hours. They are transported to the fields in re-purposed school buses painted white or yellow. Each bus drags a trailer behind it. On the trailer is a set of portable toilets that are very handy to the workers in the field. At the end of the day, the workers are transported back across the border into Mexico. It's hard, physical work that Americans don't seem to want to do. We should be glad that the Mexicans are willing to work so hard to feed us all.
