I love you 603

Much loved by rail enthusiasts Type 37 Diesel electric locomotives first came into service in the early 1960s 309 were built with the last one being produced by English Electric at Newton le Willows in 1965.

They were renowned for their reliability and for the very loud growling sound of their Diesel engines.

Quite a number are still owned by private freight haulage systems. They are very popular with heritage and preservation railways which own 47 of them.

The first one to be built is in the National Railway Museum in York.
