In the night garden

After breakfast we caught the bus again to get back into the city. It was a beautiful morning, cold but the sun was shining brightly. We dropped the bags at the next hotel and then walked down the Royal Mile to the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
A wonderful building and we especially liked the Mary , Queen of Scots Chambers. After visiting the Castle of Mey , Glamis and Cawdor Castle I felt it sort of lacked the X factor. The others feel quite homely and impressive with lots of interesting pieces of history and articles. It was good to have been inside though and we enjoyed a wander round the gardens and abbey with fine views over to Salisbury Crags and Arthurs seat. We could see tiny figures at the top.
We had tasty cauliflower soup and a roll in the cafe and then bused back to the top of the Royal mile. We walked past street entertainers and looked at the marvellous stained glass windows in St Giles Cathedral.
Saw the stages with entertainers in George Street and then had dinner in the Conan Doyle pub.
Finished day three with a visit to the Botanical Gardens to see the Botanic lights. Lots of trees lit up in different colours, the glasshouse looked great with a light show and interesting light displays dotted around the gardens.
