A call for sanctuary on St Nicholas' Day
About 100 people from several faith groups, and none, gathered in front of St Peter Mancroft church to see representatives from the Conservative, Labour and Green groups on Norwich City Council handed letters asking them to commit to providing sanctuary to 50 Syrian refugees. The noises made by the politicians were encouraging but we shall see what the outcome is in the New Year.
This is one of the speakers at the event, I understand he is from Syria and is settled in Norwich where he works at the Norfolk and Norwich hospital. He spoke simply and powerfully about the horrors faced by people seeking refuge.
One of the people at the event held up a sign saying 'Norwich Welcomes Strangers'.
