Cowichen Thunderbird
Spent the afternoon in the studio with the first Saturday afternoon broadcast of the Metropolitan Opera for the year cranked up . Rossini's Barber of Seville.. Worked on my computer projects -yes, progress…
It’s time to lock up the studio as we are leaving early in the morning….(with a blipmeet stop in Bellingham on the way home of all goes well..!!!) so this is the blip - a photo I took for something else. But worth a blip(if only to see that the back of my head has more color than the front!!! :-) )
We’ve had these wool sweaters for many years - they are the warmest thing we have here. It was balmy today but we sure appreciated them when it was so cold. Bought them many years ago, 2 in an old shop in Seattle that had NW coast items - the sweaters have the name of the woman who knit them. Then we got 2 more for our sons from Vancouver Island, but they weren’t so keen on them…. :-)
Started by the northwest coast First Nations Cowichen tribe of SE Vancouver Island, the colors are natural and the designs at first tradtitional. These have a thunderbird...a mythological bird that brings on storms and thunder. Interesting how these are a bit different from one another....I think they are now made for tourists with machine knitting…but you can read about them HERE if you are interested.
Thank you for the nice comments about my elephant book....!
