Halls Gap to Victor Harbor
We set off soon after 6.30am today as we had a 6+ hour drive to Victor Harbor. The roads again perfectly straight but busier and more massive trucks with trailers than on any other route we have taken. The rail line went alongside the road for most of the way too. The majority of the journey was through massive arable farms who were combining , the corn was then either stored in areas like silage clamps with tarpaulins over them ,several in a row and each one being 50+ metres long. There were also very high grain bins regularly along the edge of the rail line - a couple of twin engined trains went by , I gave up counting the containers at 60.
Sadly by the mid morning stop the rain had found us again and the temperature dropped.
When we crossed the boarder into South Australia the time zone changed and we gained another half hour!
Once we left the main road we turned right and found this little ferry that operates 24 hours a day and is free ! There is one major thing Australia has in its favour , it doesn't demand money all the time. Despite having called in at more tourist spots and sea front parking areas than i could count we have only paid for parking at one location . The loos are similar, all free , clean and without any graffiti. The Ausies must feel ripped off when they come to the UK.
After the little ferry we went through part of the Adalaide wine growing area with vinyards and rows of olive trees everywhere. Each row having its own irrigation ,the vines looked fantastic.
We have just walked around this cute little area with its train and tram and hoping the rain will ease off long enough for a walk this evening.
