RIGHT OUT THERE !

During March last year I was home for a month helping my brother during the calving operation on his organic farms.

I've been thinking about him and the thousands of livestock owners in the northern hemisphere this month. It's a busy and vulnerable time for animals and owners as sudden storms can lay to waste young calves and destroy livelihoods for an entire season.

The image you see here is a from a plate glass print photographed in 1884 which I bought in Cody, Wyoming many years ago. It's a tacit reminder of how tough life on the land often still is despite all the mechanization.
