Memorial

This is the granite obelisk that has recently been erected in Johnstone Gardens in memory of those lost in in last years' North sea helicopter tragedy.

It is inscribed with the names of the 16 men lost in the accident on 1st April 2009 when a Super Puma helicopter plunged into the sea when its gearbox failed. The 14 passengers and two crew members were returning from BP?s Miller platform when the craft went down off the coast of Peterhead near Aberdeen.

We were at the Gardens today to feed the ducks, it's the first time I've seen the memorial which I think only went in around the 1st anniversary of the accident. As you can see there are many many flowers, we stopped to read some of the cards, from the Lord Provost, the Oil & Gas Federation but mostly family members. Parents who lost a son, nephew writing to his beloved uncle, wives and girlfriends and most heartbreaking, children to their daddy's.

There are 2 lovely benches at either side with plaques not yet inscribed. It'll be a lovely quiet place for these people to sit and reflect. Johnstone Gardens is beautiful and a well chosen spot for the memorial.

We were there for Krystal's birthday, and I was torn over whether to blip the birthday girl or this bridge but figured I can have kids any time, the bridge isn't going away, but the memorial, although going nowhere in itself, wouldn't have the same sentimental meaning without the flowers around it.

Happy 3rd Birthday all the same Krystal!
