Aughton Woods

Pronounced 'Afton' (its anglo saxon) this is one of my favourite places. The wood is on the north river escarpment of the River Lune near Caton. This is the best bluebell woodland I know in the Northwest of England. The wood is classed as ancient and is designated a site of special scientific interest for its floral and especially the English bluebells. The scent was intoxicating. I were a doctor I would prescribe a walk in a bluebell wood as a cure for all non physical ailments.
