Lions on guard

The day began with quiet, peaceful and steady rain, but by lunch time the rain and clouds had gone and the brilliant blue sky was taking over the sky. On my way home after a French lesson I stopped by the park along the lake. I was hunting blip-ops and found this lion and his twin guarding the old wrought iron gates of the La Grange Estate, now known as 'Le Parc de la Grange'.

The lions were sculpted by Frédéric Dufaux in 1859. The park itself is said to be the most beautiful in Geneva, and it is easy to see why. The estate was donated to the City of Geneva in 1918 by William Favre with the intent that it be turned into a park "for the enjoyment of the population". The park became part of Geneva's local heritage in 1921. More park info here.
