Big Cheeses
Big cheeses in Galway
On our last morning in Galway, we went to look at the Lynch Memorial Window out of which, legend says, the Mayor of Galway, James Lynch, hanged his son in 1493. This was a window in Lynch's home. Lynch's son had murdered a Spanish man in the care of the family. Here is some detail of the skull and crossbones mounted under the window.
The point of the preceding paragraph, is that just round corner from the window was situated a delicatessen (or, perhaps more correctly, and old-fashioned grocer's) that had a fine selection of cheeses.
The 'Big Cheeses' were very impressive, especially when it turned out that they included Comté and Montgomery Cheddar, two of my favourites.
Our Irish tourism was coming to an end. After the 'Cheeses', we took the train to Limerick, and thence to Dublin. Ryanair got us back to Bournemouth ahead of time (!). Home at 01:00 on Saturday morning.
