Dangerous Beasts!

Prohibition in English, and an opportunity to learn some Gaelic.

The seals that musn't be fed live in the harbour at Howth. This attractive fishing port lies at the northern extremity of Dublin Bay. Yesterday, we were in Bray (see Blipfoto for Friday 27 May), which is at the southern end.

Near Howth are further spectacular cliff walks, with waves and birds and wild flowers all contributing to the wonderful atmosphere.

We walked from Howth Summit down to the port, which can be seen here as we start the descent.

The port area is home to fish-smoking houses (mainly for wild Irish salmon), as well as many fish shops and restaurants. Since this place is on Dublin Bay, Dublin Bay prawns (langoustines) figure prominently.

Here are some more!

My small photogallery shows some interesting wild flowers, as well as further views of the harbour and of the insides of several of the fish shops.

Fresh fish is superb! Just before returning to the airport later this day, we ended our visit to Dublin with a call at Beshoff's fish restaurant for a meal of fried fresh cod and chips. I wonder if the cod-catch is sustainable: let's hope so, because the fish was outstandingly good!
