the alma mater

This is the main building at Queen's University, Belfast. It's the most recognisable symbol of the University, a lovely red brick Gothic style building which was designed by Charles Lanyon in 1849. I'll blip a proper picture of it some day so you can actually see it!

I'm looking forward to leaving the University later this year but I've had some good times here in the past 7 years, and walking through this building always puts a smile on my face. For some reason this morning I was reminded of the Tom Lehrer song Bright College Days, this verse pretty much sums up how I feel about leaving the alma mater...

Soon we'll be out amid the cold world's strife.
Soon we'll be sliding down the razor blade of life.
But as we go our sordid sep'rate ways,
We shall ne'er forget thee, thou golden college days.
