Darwin to Kununurra
Sorted the food into bags and programmed some iPod playlists while J and C collected the car, meat and jerry cans.
Set off by 10am in a Toyota 4WD that J named Miyagi.
Quickly out of Darwin and out of phone reception.
Hot, sunny day.
Dusty, dry country.
Red dirt.
Huge ant nests.
Countless eagles overhead.
Burnt out in places.
Burning off in others.
Fluorescent green regrowth below black tree trunks.
Fuel stop in Katherine.
Lunch at Victoria River.
Pushed on through the afternoon.
Long day of driving.
Change of drivers about every two hours.
Started kangaroo watch as dusk approached.
Rounded a corner.
Came upon a huge flock of galahs on the road that flew away as they saw us.
Two not quick enough, hitting our windscreen with a very loud bang.
Luckily, it didn't break, but was completely covered in the dust of pulverised galahs.
Drove on.
Stopped a little after the best of the sunset to snap this shot.
Arrived in Kununurra about 7pm.
C had prebooked a cabin at the caravan park.
Very cosy with comfy beds, kitchenette and a good shower.
BBQ chicken more tempting than putting together a meal from the overflowing ingredients in the car, so headed to Coles.
Dinner.
Shower.
Chocolate biscuits.
Bed.
