Sleepy Cherryblossom

Caennabeinne Bay

My folks and I were traversing the North west Highlands today :)

We took a drive up through Ardross and Bonar Bridge to Lairg and then onto Crask (stopped to say hello to some folks we know who have the Inn there), had tea and scones in Altnaharra then on up past Ben Loyal to Tongue, Loch Eriboll and a coffee pit-stop in Durness. Back down through Riconich to Laxford bridge, had some fish and chips at a nice wee place with very friendly owners in the Reay Forest, then past Lairg and Shin again and back on the road home.

Phew!

Well done to my dad for driving the whole way because we left at 10 in the morning and got back at about 9pm at night. (I was asleep in the back most of the way home after we'd had dinner!) It was a long day but we had a really lovely time, not the best weather because it was pretty cloudy most of the way - but it didn't rain and Mum and I managed to take lots of pictures to possibly use as painting inspiration despite the clouds. When we discovered this lovely little bay (Cannabeans!) near Durness the sun even popped out for a few minutes :O)

Mum and I had never been further up than Lairg before (every time we venture up to Shin Falls it buckets down and we can't get out of the car - seriously, every time, which kind of puts you off continuing up!) but we've wanted to for ages and have been waiting for 'a good day' to do it. Clearly that wasn't going to happen this summer so we just went anyway and it was well worth it, we'll definitely be back!
Next time we are going to go up the west side to Ullapool and explore some of the bays along the way. Lots of photo opportunities!
