Nelly.
If you are ever in Northumberland and near the causeway to Lindesfarne then spare some time to pop into the Barn at Beal and see the birds there. If the weather is kind to you then you'll get to see some of the birds flying but sadly it threw it down with rain just after we arrived and so flying was abandoned for the day.
We were able to take some photos and also chat with the people that work there. My niece was even lucky enough to be allowed to hold this lovely bird Nelly. We were told that Nelly is a Black Barn Owl and is one in a million due to her colouring. In the wild she would probably have been thrown from the nest not long after her feathers started to develop. This is one lucky bird as she was raised in captivity and is very happy to let people touch her very soft feathers (with permission of the owners of course) and pose while you take photos.
