The cleaning and trimming operations before most of this stuff goes into the freezer generates a most exotic and strong smell that permeates the whole house. Very pleasant indeed!

Years ago, before we grew our own, we bought a very large quantity of basil in a local market in Sardinia just before flying back to the UK. Two adults and two children each had two plastic bags stuffed with the stuff. The aircraft cabin smelled like a Genovese restaurant before many minutes had passed...
