Dunsley Tunnel
Today's the day ......................... to gently cruise
A lovely tranquil day on the Staffs and Worcs Canal, taking in the scenery, going through the odd lock, walking along the towpath or taking a turn at steering ...........
This is Dunsley Tunnel (No 31). Apart from a bricked portal, it has just been roughly hewn out of the sandstone rock. It is very special for a couple of reasons. It is believed to be the oldest navigable tunnel in existence on this canal system, having been built about 1769 - and it is the shortest, being just some 25 yards long.
