The Lodge

This building is linked to yesterdays blip.

Currently being extensively renovated after falling into serious disrepair, this building was the Lodge to a 19th century spa. People would pay an entrance fee at the Lodge and then enjoy the delights of the spa, which in its hey-day also included a boating lake, fairground, brass band performances and much more.

One could also purchase locally brewed beer and other beverages in the Lodge and this proved to be very popular with the bargees who passed close by just yards away, on the canal.

Whether this affected their ability to manouevre through the locks further up the canal, we can only ponder! Probably something they would have taken in their stride...
