Queensland Holiday - Day 2 - Australia Zoo
This morning we made an impromptu decision to go to Australia Zoo to meet up with some other friends who are on holiday from Melbourne! They are friends of Kaz and Benita's and have two daughters who get along well with Benita's kids.
Australia Zoo is set up as mostly a crocodile park but has other animals there as well. It was made famous by Steve Irwin 'The Crocodile Hunter' who got his reputation for trying to save crocodiles. It encompasses over 1500 acres of land and employs over 600 staff! There are elephants, tigers, emus, birds, wombats, turtles, kangaroos and heaps of other reptiles and animals. The zoo is set up as a wildlife park and has a strong focus on protection and preservation of animals.
Steve tragically died four years ago from a stingray tail. His wife and two kids still run the park and keep up the great work that Steve started.
We arrived in time to see Bindi (Steve's daughter) perform her songs which Benita's daughter Jasmine was excited about!! We spent the rest of the day roaming around the park looking at all the animals and had a lovely time. The weather was really good, no wind, no rain and not too sunny!
I took about 350 photos of which I have kept about half of them! It was hard to choose just one for today's blip but I have gone with this little green spider that I saw just as we were about to leave. Spence was playing in some sand in the dinosaur discovery area and I saw this spider which caught my eye. It is some sort of jumping spider with a long tail bit on the back if it. I think it looks like it is wearing sunglasses!! I have never seen one like this before!
