That one snuck up on me

Sometimes our systems are not designed to help us. IN fact, what was once a really useful thing, has not kept pace with the way we have to use and present information to external 'partners'.

I use the word partners in it's loosest possible sense, as some are not partners, but could possible be described as
* worriers (think sheep)
* stalkers (always there, lurking in the shadows, waiting to pounce)
* similar to that much despised 'ex' - sadly they might have to be a part of your life, but you don't have to like them, and in fact, you can barely even tolerate them.

But I digress.

In a meeting this afternoon it became abundantly apparent that two of our systems for storing data fall desperately short when it comes to churning figures out in the right way for what we need.

However, this was not my area of responsibility.

I could have walked away.

But instead, I sat at the kitchen table and let that little monkey crawl onto my lap and get cosy. For 4 hours. Why why why?

Well, it occurred to me on the way home that there was potentially a solution, - some "Statto spreadsheet magic"
The leg work is now done - just needs approval tomorrow, before I then set it up ready to go for regular updates.

That means, I hope, that at least 4 of my colleagues will benefit from not having to manually trawl data and tally. It also means that another is 'off the hook' which frustrates me a little, particularly as I expect their reaction will be one of disdain and general disapproval (along the lines of "you swot" if we regressed to being teenagers). However, if it saves the other 4 the task every month, then I will have done something positive.

Monkey is happy and I am now going to have a bath and go to bed.

I'm such a geek.
