We will remember them

I remember laying wreaths as a Brownie but not recognising the actual importance of what we were doing. I never liked History at school and dropped it as soon as I could - I think I'd choose differently if I was there now.

Hearing the Last Post played today by the Naval orchestra and buglers raised the hairs on the back of my neck, as did seeing a war veteran shakily get up out of his seat to read a lesson. It was a Service of Rememberance held in what used to be known as the Church of St John the Evangelist, built to commemorate the hundreds of British and Indian soliers from Bombay who died in the First Afghan War of 1838-1843.
