Undefeated, everybody goes home....

Quiz night 4 and the meeting of the only two undefeated teams in the league, us and the Pack Horse.

The Pack Horse is a very old pub up on the moors outside the town, witha 600 year old skull behind the bar!!!! As you can see the ceilings are very low, but it has lovely roaring open fires in the winter, good food and serves good beer.

In the picture are my team mates Phil, Lee and Bob just prior to the match.

It was nip and tuck all night, another nail biter.

We lost the first round 7-6, because none of us knew which insect is called Ohruwurm in German and Der Mattero in Italian

We lost the second round (Individual questions) 7-6, because Bob couldn't recall the Tv series that featured a 1974 Ford Cortina. I got lumbered with the Shakespeare question but got it right. Game score 14-12.

We won the third round 8-4 largely because I knew which product was called Devil's Rope in 19th century USA. game score 18-20

The 4th round was a 4-4 draw. Game score 22-24.

Fag break and then back for the second half.

We lost round five 7-4. Game score 29-28. Disaster!

Round six turned out to be the crucial round, the Pack Horse blanked on 3 out of their 4 questions and only scored 4 points, we picked up 2 bonus points and scored 2 each on our 4 questions to win the round 4-10. Game score, 33-38.

Round seven(individuals) saw another loss 6-3, with Phil,Lee and Bob all blanking, fortunately Lee managed to pick up a bonus point and I knew the Biological breakthrough by Prof Steptoe in 1978. game score 39-41

Last round, we dropped our first question, they got theirs, both teams scored on the second and third,.....SCORES LEVEL!!! and then came the last questions. They turned out to be flower questions.

Ask any one , especially the Boss,I'm crap on flowers but tonight the God of Quizzes gave me divine inspiration, not only did I get our question right by knowing(guessing) which small early flowers are collected by a Galanthophile, which meant we couldn't lose, I also picked up a bonus when the Pack dropped their last question, "Which National Park has a web site called Petal Peak devoted to news about Spring flowers?"

Round score 6-7.

Final game score 45-48.........Victory

To follow on from last nights worst movie quotes, there's another one very appropriate to the way I felt at the end of the quiz........"I'm getting too old for this shit!"

Das vidanya.
