An Apple a Day
Each year as autumn is approaching, I always hope we'll get to take a day trip to the apple community of Oak Glen, but once mid-October was gone, I knew the peak of the apple season had passed here in southern California; however, "Apple" season is just getting started in our lives.
My iPad entered the family this past June as I attended an educator's conference in San Diego. Then Mr. Fun purchased his MacBookPro the end of September. Recently we've been frequent visitors at the Apple store in Victoria Gardens in the community of Rancho Cucamonga. They know us by first name.
Years ago we were part of the family of Mac users. I helped my colleagues in the English department learn how to use them. Then my campus converted to using all PCs and we slowly did the same here at home. So we are now making the transition back, one "Apple" at a time.
This morning we were on the road at approximately 7:15 with a Mac appt at 8:00 for Mr. Fun. The one-on-one training session lasted an hour and he was thoroughly excited about the potential to transform the zillions of home movies we've accumlated into videos that he can share with our kids, grandkids, and friends.
Each time we walk into the Apple store, we realize all over again that Apple season is on the rise. The place is always busy. When 10:00 a.m. arrives each day and the store officially opens, it's almost as if everyone within a 3-block radius is sucked into the store and the sound of voices increases exponentially, and for that reason we go to the early morning workshops when "quiet" reigns in the store.
So that's where we were early this morning. Then late morning and afternoon was given to grading student papers and a stop into my campus office to prepare for this week's classes, and this evening I'll be in the online office meeting with students, but the day was started with the fragrance of apples.
Late tonight the temperature is supposed to slip to freezing. So there might possibly be frost on the apples; well, the ones in the orchards anyway.
Good night from Southern California.
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
